Emmanuel Day School Yearly Events |
Welcome Barbecue – August
A wonderful kick-off to the coming year is our Welcome barbecue. It
is a great chance for new and returning families to meet staff and
other families who will be joining the school in in the upcoming weeks.
Orientation – September
Meet your teachers, new friends, and explore the classrooms. September
lesson packets will be available to take home. Parents may use this
time to complete any incomplete forms, discuss special concerns with
teachers, etc. Open House (for enrolled students)
– October
Come visit your child’s rooms. Look at past and present work,
view folders, and see how we’re progressing. Halloween
Party
The day of October 31st or before, if falling on a weekend.
ALL Saints’ Day Parade – November 1st
Children dress as their favorite Saint and attend Chapel. All are welcome to attend Chapel!
Thanksgiving
Feast – November
A school event with students, teachers, faculty of Emmanuel Church,
and parent volunteers. Students dress in Pilgrim and Native American
attire and sit down together to enjoy God’s bountiful Harvest
that they have helped to prepare. This traditional holiday feast is
a “Miss Dawn” tradition that has developed over the last
15 years, and always takes place the day before Thanksgiving Recess.
Our Holiday Show and Pageant – December
A Miss Dawn legacy, students partake in a traditional Christmas Pageant
for their parents, relatives, and friends! Junior class performs traditional
songs of different cultures. The Senior class will reenact through
costume and song the birth of Jesus. Bring plenty of tissue and your
camera this is surely every parent’s first gift of the season!
A festive reception and a visitor from up North conclude this very
special evening!! Open House for Next School Year,
(registration for the public) – January/February
Tell your family, friends. Limited space is available. We look forward
to meeting new friends. Families may tour the school, meet our staff,
and register at this time.
(An existing family may have first registration privileges beginning
December and ending January 31st). Parent Teacher
Conferences – March
School is closed this day. Parents make appointments to speak with
teachers about their child’s progress and test scores. This
is an important and critical time for parents and students as many
children do not begin to reach and exhibit their developmental plateaus
until February. Accommodating half-hour appointments beginning at
7am-6pm are available. We are sensitive to the needs of divorced families
and will provide separate appointments if need be. Easter
Egg Hunt – Thursday before Easter
Traditional Egg Hunt on the beautiful lawn of Emmanuel Church…Wear
your Easter Best!
Medieval Feast - May
Medieval month culminates with a truly medieval day complete with
medieval attire and a knighting and "princess" ceremony
held in the beautiful, historic Emmanuel church. This is all followed
up by jousting and games out on the lawn and concludes with an "authentic"
feast with drum legs and goblets for all!
Art Show and Science Faire –
May
With Spring, comes warm, magical nights! Come to our Emmanuel Day
School Family Night! Children and adults are invited to join us for
the Children’s Art Show in our Gothic-style surroundings! Students
also showcase their science faire projects which they have worked
on all month and are very proud to display. End of
the Year Cook Out- June
The day before graduation we ask for many parent volunteers to help
us coordinate a cook out after our last graduation rehearsal. This
is our last day of school. Graduation Ceremony- June
All children participate in a choreographed production sure to rival
Broadway before receiving their diplomas. All Emmanuel Day School
students will be in full uniform. The ceremonial passing in the “ties”
by the Senior class is one not to be missed!
