Violin Recital, Friday May 16, 6pm
Lauren Benowitz will be offering an end of the year violin performance. EDS students and a few of her private tutorial students will be performing for us in Emmanuel Church. A post-recital reception will be held in the library directly following. I look forward to seeing and hearing you all! (Anyone welcome to attend).

Belcourt Castle Field Trip, Wednesday May 21, 10am
Wednesday, May 21st 10am will be our annual “pilgrimage” to Belcourt castle. Our Medival Month field trip to historic Belcourt to learn about what a “Newport castle” looked like will begin, (hopefully..still firming it up) with a Trolley ride down Bellevue to the castle. The cost for the field trip is $5 per student and $8 per adult. If it is not your day to attend EDS and  you would like to meet us there, we look forward to seeing you there…I am not certain about the details on the Trolley for any of us at this point but will keep you posted. If we cannot secrure transportation I will ask for a driver sign-up. All EDS students attending that day will be going on the field trip.

Medieval Knighting Ceremony/Feast and Alumni Night: May 29th, 1 pm and 6 pm
Hear Ye Hear ye….it is probably one of our better days here at EDS..this year will not be an exception either. The Knighting/Princess ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 29th at 1pm in the Church Proper. EDS students are encouraged to come to school for their scheduled day dressed in period attire to be knighted, and “prinecessed” . Those not attending that day are encouraged to come at 1pm and join in this very “solemn and serious” event…(that it has morphed into!) The children take this VERY seriously so I try to do my best in giving them their historical flashback!

After the ceremony EDS and their families are invited to return to school at 6pm for the Medieval Feast! By popular demand, Knighthorse productions, ( husband and wife Shakespearean acting team), will again be at EDS for a Balcony performance  and hopefully more swashbuckling snippets from some of Master Will’s greatest works! The feast concludes with a sampling of medieval fare and frivolity!!! The children are all asked to return to EDS in castle attire for this very magical end of the year celebration. Also, we will be asking this to be our first annual “Alumni Night”. I will be drafting an invitation this week for EDS families that have graduated in the hopes we will have a good turn out! If you see any graduated EDS families please let them know about the event. There will be a sign-up sheet very soon for medieval night food.

Science Faire and Art Show, Thursday June 5th, 6 pm
Each student is somehow involved in the annual EDS Science Faire. Your Pre-K graduating student will be working the entire month of May and first week of June on their science project. They will be responsible for their art work, and research for their presentation.  Most of their work will be researched here at school…but if you feel like you want to go to the library and check out a book or two to help your child (and us too) that would be very helpful. I will ask that you please have your pre-k student bring in some type of box or bucket that a will be available only for their use of work/art/materials and library or text books relating to their topic. The box/bucket will be returned to you after the science faire.

Also, the children in the Junior and freshman classes will be putting together an exhibit at the science faire. They are working on the pre-historic dinosaur era in conjunction with natural disasters.

The Science Faire/Art Show is our last academic open house of the year. It is a very good time to visit with our EDS students and see how far they have progressed throughout this past school year. I look forward to seeing all the families and extended families!

Graduation Practices, Monday - Wednesday, June 9-11
June 9, 10, and 11 are mandatory rehearsal days for ALL Pre-K Graduates. I would like all of the Pre-K here (attend full days for these special 3 days). All student body is expected for a Dress Rehearsal on Wed. June 11 beginning at 9 and concluding at 1pm. (Everyone: Jrs. Freshman and Pre-K). This rehearsal is CLOSED to parents.

Last Day of School Cook Out, Wednesday June 11th, 1 pm
Hot dogs, hamburgers, and other yummy treats will be made available for our very hard working student body. Sign up sheets will be available.

Graduation, Thursday June 12th, 10 am (NO SCHOOL THAT DAY)
Pre-K Seniors are graduating on June 12th at 10 am. There is no school that day. Graduation begins at 10am sharp. Our show begins with a processional of the graduates and teachers. The Freshman and Junior class will perform 2 songs and turn the floor over to the graduates.

I ask that parents of graduating students please fill in the reserved seating toward the front  and those that are not to please fill in toward the rear. If you are bringing extended family members and/or friends please also know that they may need to sit toward the rear of the school to make room for all of the graduates moms and dads. We have 24 graduating Seniors.

I provide your graduates Cap and Gown. These are on loan from EDS and will need to be returned right after the ceremony.  Students receive their certificate of promotion and we conclude the program with a few school songs. A reception in the library will follow…more to come on signing up for this event.

Notes to Parents

School Uniform
We are now in Summer Uniform as of April 1st. This consists of tan khaki/navy blue/grey bottoms (long bermuda-style shorts, slacks, skirts, jumpers), white collared shirts, and navy blue/grey/red sweaters. Lace up shoes or Crocs/other Teva-style sandals are okay.

Labels, lunches, and lost and found
Please remember to label all of your child's clothes on the inside tag of the garment as well as backpacks and lunch boxes. Lunch boxes are now placed upon arrival in the "lunch box drop" basket by the sign up sheet. This helps to get the lunches out in a speedy fashion before recess.

There is also a lost and found area above the mailbox system in the hallway where the kids hang up their things. Please check it frequently for lost items. Please also help us to control "lost" items at school by not allowing your child to bring toys, etc. from home. We reiterate that it would be sad for him/her if his/her special item gets lost or broken.

Mailboxes
Please check the mailbox system daily either at drop-off or pick-up. Your child has a folder in his/her slot with work, information on upcoming events, and announcements. Please be sure to leave the folder behind in the mailbox.

Tuition
Tuition is due by the 5th of each month. Please give your tuition check to either Miss Dawn, Miss Terri, or the "Tuition basket" on the sign-in table. Starting next month, invoices will be left in your child's folder. We do not mail out invoices.

Rules about Special Events at School
Due to state laws and fire codes, we have specific rules about how many children are allowed per adult in the school building at one time. Of course this is already taken into account with our staffing on a normal school day. For special events, we love to have all children join us for whatever special event has been announced for a given day, however, if your child does not normally attend school that day we must ask that you stay with your child for the duration of the event. So, please know that when we specify "All Welcome", this means with parent supervision for those not scheduled on that day. Thank you for your understanding.

Emmanuel Parking Lot
Parents please note that it is okay to park in the parking lot across the street from Emmanuel Church while dropping off/picking up your child or during school events.
